Charlton Athletic hold on to beat Bolton Wanderers

Charlton Athletic withstand a spirited display from Bolton Wanderers to record a 2-1 victory at The Valley.

Goals from George Tucudean and Johnnie Jackson have earned Charlton Athletic a 2-1 victory against Bolton Wanderers.

In a quiet opening to the game at The Valley, Bolton created the only opportunity through Lee Chung-Yong but goalkeeper Stephen Henderson was able to make a comfortable save, despite half-spilling the shot.

Matt Mills also went close for the visitors, but Charlton, who were keen to return to winning ways after losing their unbeaten record at the weekend, slowly imposed themselves on the game before taking the lead on 29 minutes.

Tucudean did well to control a lofted pass that had been sent into the penalty area before calmly slotting the ball past Andrew Lonergan in the Bolton goal.

Charlton doubled their advantage six minutes into the second half when Jackson provided a cool finish from 16 yards for his second goal of the campaign.

However, it took Bolton just three minutes to halve the deficit when Dean Moxey's low strike found its way through a pack of bodies before finding the net for his first goal for Bolton since his move from Crystal Palace.

Bolton were very much in the ascendancy but Charlton held firm, with a header from Jermaine Beckford being cleared off the line midway through the second half.

Mills almost found the back of the net for the second game in a row but after his glancing header missed the post, Charlton saw out the final minutes to move into seventh place in the table.
