Chelsea reportedly make a major decision about whether to make an effort to sign a new goalkeeper ahead of the 2025-26 season.

Chelsea are reportedly prepared to pass up the chance to strengthen their goalkeeping department in the summer transfer window.

The goalkeeper situation at Stamford Bridge has been a hot topic of conversation this season, particularly due to a number of high-profile errors from Robert Sanchez.

Up until the end of January, Sanchez was widely regarded as Chelsea's number one, given the chance to feature in 21 of the club's first 23 Premier League games this season.

However, the Spaniard made five mistakes leading to goals during that period - a number that has only been equalled by Ipswich Town goalkeeper Arijanet Muric.

Sanchez has since lost his number-one spot to former Villarreal shot-stopper Filip Jorgensen, who has featured in Chelsea's last four top-flight matches.

However, Jorgensen saw his own position come under scrutiny when he made a costly error in a 2-1 defeat against Aston Villa.

The 22-year-old failed to get his body behind Marco Asensio's stoppage-time winner, forcing Enzo Maresca to field questions about his spot in the team.

Jorgensen bounced back with a clean sheet in Tuesday's 4-0 win over Southampton, but there has still been some speculation suggesting that Chelsea will look to sign a new goalkeeper in the summer transfer window.

Southampton goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale is among those who have been linked with a potential move to Stamford Bridge ahead of the 2025-26 season.

However, according to The Times, Chelsea currently have no plans to recruit a new shot-stopper in the summer transfer window.

The report claims that the Chelsea hierarchy are reluctant to splash any more cash on that particular area of the pitch after spending more than £150m on goalkeepers in the last six years.

Loanees to return to Stamford Bridge

Chelsea are seemingly willing to let Sanchez and Jorgensen continue fighting it out for the number-one spot next season.

However, the Blues will still be able to turn to alternative options even without delving into the summer transfer market.

Mike Penders will link up with his new teammates ahead of the 2025-26 campaign after it was announced last year that he will join Chelsea from Genk this summer.

The 19-year-old has spent the majority of the current campaign on the bench before being given a run in the side following the turn of the year.

Penders has kept four clean sheets in nine appearances in the Belgian top-flight this season, while he has conceded no more than one goal in any of his last seven Jupiler League matches.

Chelsea also have the option of utilising Djordje Petrovic, who is currently on loan with sister club Strasbourg in France.

The Serbia international has recorded six shutouts in 20 Ligue 1 appearances, including clean sheets in each of the club's last three top-flight games.
