Hibernian beat and leapfrog Rangers

Hibernian beat Rangers for the third time in the Scottish Championship this season, leapfrogging the Glasgow giants into second in the table with a 2-0 win at Ibrox.

Hibernian have beaten Rangers for the third time in the Scottish Championship this season to leapfrog the Glasgow giants into second in the table.

Goals from Scott Robertson and Lewis Stevenson at each end of the game saw the visitors grind out a 2-0 win despite Rangers being largely dominant.

The Gers twice went close on the 10-minute mark as Newcastle United loanee Haris Vuckic unleashed a 20-yard drive which Mark Oxley parried away.

Kenny Miller was first to the rebound and guided it towards the empty net, only for Hibs defender Liam Fontaine to head the ball away off the line.

The Edinburgh outfit, who have already beaten Rangers 3-1 and 4-1 this term, took the lead a short while later as the ball fell kindly to Robertson on the penalty spot after stand-in keeper Lee Robinson had blocked bravely at the feet of Jason Cummings.

Although Miller was forced off with an injury, Rangers continued to push forward as they did prior to the opener, with his strike partner Kris Boyd glancing a header wide and testing Oxley with a long-range snapshot.

Vuckic was a central figure for the hosts and led their search for an equaliser in the second half. He thought that he should have had a penalty after going down inside the box under the challenge of Paul Hanlon.

Boyd and Sebastien Faure went close from the midfielder's set pieces as the Gers increased the pressure, with Hibs dropping deeper in defence and threatening only when Scott Allan's free kick hit the side-netting.

However, the visitors limited the chances on offer and then secured the points with a second against the run of play as Fraser Fyvie lifted a pass in for Stevenson to volley past Robinson eight minutes from time.
