Adam Lallana taking nothing for granted

Adam Lallana says that he is simply concentrating on improving and working hard, rather than copying other players.

Southampton star Adam Lallana has admitted that he is taking nothing for granted ahead of the World Cup this summer.

The 25-year-old has starred for his club and has been regularly involved for his country this season, but remains focused on improving.

He also insists that he is just trying to be the best player he can be despite being likened to several Spanish stars by his manager.

"No way," Lallana told reporters when asked if he was guaranteed an England place. "I've only won three caps. It would just be silly to think that.

"My scholarship was two, three years long and day in, day out you would work on your left foot and work on your right foot. I've never be blessed with out-and-out pace, or out-and-out power, so the technical side of the game is something I have worked hours on end on.

"People say I've got a continental style, but I've not once watched specific people playing and said I want to be like them. I'm just trying to be myself and learn as much on the training pitch and playing on the weekends as I can."

Lallana is likely to be involved when Southampton take on Aston Villa tomorrow.
