Wolverhampton Wanderers transfer latest: Vitor Pereira boost on January deadline day as 'medicals' booked

Duo set for Wolves 'medical': Have Wolves done enough for top-flight survival?

Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly closing in on two signings on transfer deadline day in a bid to avoid Premier League relegation.

Wolverhampton Wanderers targets Marshall Munetsi of Stade Reims and Nasser Djiga of Red Star Belgrade have reportedly arrived in Paris to complete their medicals ahead of potential deals to sign for the Premier League club.

Wolves' controversial 2-0 win against Aston Villa on Saturday in the league meant they ended the past weekend in 17th place with 19 points, two more than 18th-placed Leicester City and three more than 19th-placed Ipswich Town.

Matheus Cunha has spearheaded their push for Premier League survival, but there are question marks about whether Vitor Pereira's squad can continue to rely so heavily on the attacker.

In a bid to strengthen the squad, Sky Sports report that Munetsi and Djiga are both set to undergo medicals in Paris ahead of moves worth £15m and £10m respectively.

Marshall Munetsi and Nasser Djiga assessed

Marshall Munetsi is a right-footed midfielder and can operate in either a defensive midfield role or in a more advanced number eight position.

The 28-year-old has shown a knack for crashing the box and finding the back of the net given he has scored four goals in Ligue 1 this campaign, as many as he totalled in the entirety of 2023-24.

As for Nasser Djiga, the 22-year-old centre-back featured in the Champions League for Red Star Belgrade this campaign, though his side were eliminated after finishing in 29th place, conceding 22 goals in eight games.

The defender won an impressive 70% of his ground duels in Europe in 2024-25, but his aerial win percentage of 53% falls short of current Wolves defenders Toti Gomes (70.3%) and Craig Dawson (65.6%).

Will Wolves avoid Premier League relegation?

Bringing in a midfielder should be seen as the bare minimum given Galatasaray are reportedly close to signing Mario Lemina for a fee of £2.5m.

The same can be said of their defence given centre-back Yerson Mosquera has been ruled out until June due to a serious knee injury.

However, if Pereira is to secure his side's survival, then it would be sensible to help alleviate some of the pressure on Cunha considering the forward has scored 11 of the team's 34 goals, as well as the fact striker Jorgen Strand Larsen is injured.

If the deals are pushed through, then the club will at least have better defensive coverage, though it remains to be seen if either Djiga or Munetsi are able to adapt to the intensity of the Premier League.
