Brentford captain Christian Norgaard is set to commit his future to the Premier League club after reportedly reaching an agreement over a new contract.

Brentford captain Christian Norgaard has reportedly agreed to sign a new contract with the Bees.

Norgaard has made 187 competitive appearances since joining Brentford from Italian side Fiorentina in the summer of 2019.

The Dane helped the club win promotion via the Championship playoffs in 2020-21, while he was also part of the side that achieved a top-half Premier League finish in 2022-23.

Norgaard remains a key part of Thomas Frank's side, demonstrated by the fact that he has been entrusted with the captain's armband.

The Denmark international has also started all 25 of his Premier League appearances this season, contributing one goal and four assists.

Norgaard agrees to sign Brentford deal

While he is a pillar of the Brentford squad, Norgaard has seen his future called into question due to his contract situation.

Norgaard's current deal is set to expire at the end of the season, although there is an option to extend his contract by a further 12 months.

However, rather than take up an option, it appears that Brentford and Norgaard are on the verge of announcing a new contract.

According to Danish outlet Tipsbladet, Norgaard is set to sign a new two-year deal after reaching an agreement with the West London club.

The new contract will keep the midfielder at the Gtech Community Stadium until the summer of 2027, which would take him to eight years as a Brentford player.

Norgaard's suitors to be left disappointed

Brentford will hope that Norgaard's new deal will ward off any potential interest in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Everton, Fulham and Bournemouth were all believed to be among the clubs keeping a close eye on Norgaard's situation.

However, the Brentford captain is happy in West London and is set to remain with the Bees beyond the end of the current season.

While he will stay put for the next couple of years, Norgaard could return to Danish side Brondby before he hangs up his boots, having previously expressed a desire to finish his career at the club where he spent five years until he left in 2018.

Norgaard's current focus will be on Brentford's trip to St James' Park for Wednesday's Premier League meeting with Newcastle United.
