Tottenham Hotspur transfer latest: Ange Postecoglou set for squad rebuild in summer window with several exits touted

'Seven first team players': Who will Postecoglou axe for squad rebuild?

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly willing to part company with several first-team stars and allow Ange Postecoglou to rebuild his squad in the upcoming summer.

Up to seven first-team players are reported to be on the way out of Tottenham Hotspur, with Ange Postecoglou aiming to rebuild his squad in the summer transfer window.

Tottenham were beaten 1-0 by Manchester City at home on Wednesday night, losing for the 14th time in the Premier League this season.

The Londoners are currently 13th in the table with just 33 points after 27 matchweeks, and they are 14 points behind fourth-placed Manchester City.

Boss Postecoglou has been handicapped by the fact numerous first-team stars like Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have spent prolonged periods on the sidelines due to injury.

However, other players have also underperformed this campaign and Football London claim that Yves Bissouma, Richarlison, Timo Werner, Sergio Reguilon, Bryan Gil, Fraser Forster and Alfie Whiteman could leave the club this summer.

Who will Spurs need to sign?

Midfielder Bissouma looks almost certain to leave the team in the summer given he is nearing his thirties and will have just 12 months left on his contract at the end of this season.

Spurs have the option to sign Real Betis midfielder Johnny Cardoso from Real Betis in the upcoming transfer window, and coupled with the integration of talents like Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall, Tottenham are unlikely to miss Bissouma's presence too much.

Elsewhere, the club may need to look for another wide attacker considering legend Son Heung-min has been inconsistent in the final third this season and has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich, while forwards like Werner have failed to impress.

Werner is only on loan from RB Leipzig, and given Tottenham signed teenager Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich in January on loan with an option to buy, the club may already have one internal solution.

Is Ange Postecoglou the right man for Spurs?

Postecoglou has faced significant criticism for his side's performances this campaign, with pundits like Jamie Carragher questioning whether the Australian can win a trophy as boss if he refuses to adapt his style of play.

The manager claimed that he always wins trophies in his second season at clubs, but in order to do so with Spurs, the 59-year-old would have to win the Europa League this campaign.

It should be noted that Postecoglou has won three of his last four Premier League games in charge - with his team scoring seven while conceding just twice - and stars like Dominic Solanke and Van de Ven are nearing a return to action.

Postecoglou deserves the chance to see out the remainder of 2024-25, but he will be under pressure in 2025-26 to prove that this season has been nothing more than an anomaly in his otherwise positive tenure.
