Ipswich Town vs. West Ham United: Head-to-head record and past meetings

Ahead of Sunday's Premier League clash between Ipswich and West Ham, Sports Mole looks at the head-to-head record and previous meetings between the two clubs.

Head-to-head record

Previous meetings: 70
Ipswich wins: 21
Draws: 20
West Ham wins: 29

Ipswich Town and West Ham United have met on a grand total of 70 occasions, with the latter having the better of the head-to-head record.

Indeed, the Hammers have been victorious in 29 editions of this fixture compared to the Tractor Boys' 21 triumphs, whilst the spoils have been split 20 times.

The first meeting between the sides ended in an emphatic success for West Ham, who advanced into the fourth round of the FA Cup in 1950 courtesy of a 5-1 demolition of their visitors to Upton Park.

Following that battering in East London, Ipswich would suffer two further defeats in the old Division Two, starting off life against West Ham as poorly as possible.

However, the East Anglians would then enjoy a remarkable run of results, losing just one of their next 19 battles with the Hammers stretching from 1957 to 1974.

In terms of Premier League contests, West Ham have been the dominant force in this matchup, losing just once in the competition to Ipswich across 10 games.

There was a 12-year gap in this fixture between January 2012 and the first clash of the 2024-25 season in October 2024, when Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus were among the goalscorers in a 4-1 West Ham mauling of Ipswich at the London Stadium.

The Hammers would also win the second meeting between the sides that season, emerging as 3-1 victors in their final game of the campaign at Portman Road.

James Ward-Prowse opened the scoring for the Irons in the first half, striking into an empty net after a Bowen assist, though Nathan Broadhead's solo goal brought the match back to level terms early in the second half.

Bowen produced a goal of his own minutes later to restore West Ham's lead, before Kudus capped off the game with his side's third late on.

Ipswich had already been relegated by the time they played West Ham, but the memory of ending their Premier League season with a defeat at home to the Londoners will have been bitter.
